In Our Own Voice

NAMI In Our Own Voice (IOOV) are free presentations that change attitudes, assumptions, and stereotypes about the realities of living with mental illness. Individuals living with a mental health condition share their personal stories during a 60-minute presentation.

What You’ll Gain

NAMI In Our Own Voice adds greater understanding and perspective to what people living with mental illness are like.

An IOOV presentation provides

• A first-hand account of what it’s like to live with a mental illness. Presenters humanize this misunderstood topic by demonstrating that it’s possible and common to live well with mental illness.
• An opportunity to ask the presenters questions about their individual experiences with mental health conditions, which helps to dispel stereotypes and misconceptions.
• An awareness that persons living with a mental illness can hope for a brighter future.
