August is generally a busy time for most of us. Summer starts coming to an end, kids go back to school and each of us gets back into a routine that tends to lighten up during the warmer months. Our efforts at NAMI Arapahoe/Douglas Counties aren’t much different. There are many important things happening. Let me share a bit below about our upcoming programming. As always, it is FREE of charge.
- The last week of August was especially busy for us. We began a new 12-week Family to Family Class on August 27th. It required advance registration, but the first week was well attended, with 13 participants.
This important class is a signature program for NAMI and we love teaching it and building mental health awareness among families within our community. It is a life changing opportunity for most and could be for you too. Be sure to register soon for an upcoming class.
To learn more about Family to Family and upcoming classes, visit the Family-to-Family page on our website.
- On Saturday, August 29th we held a Parent Workshop. 17 people were in attendance to learn more about:
What You Need to Know About the Educational Rights of Students With Disabilities
By: Jack D. Robinson, JD
- Beginning September 14th, NAMI Basics will begin. This 6-week course is geared towards parents and family caregivers of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges. This is the first NAMI Basics class to be taught in the State. NAMI Arapahoe/Douglas Counties was fortunate enough to bring in NAMI National trainers to teach this important program to our State Affiliates. Join us for this great program! It requires pre-registration, do so now by visiting our NAMI Basics page.
- 8 times per year, we offer a Speaker Series. A community partner comes to share about a particular mental health related topic. The next event is coming up soon on September 17th. Learn more about the upcoming speakers on our Speaker Series page.
This is by no means a complete list of the classes, support and outreach we have coming up, Please visit our website for a complete list of programming. http://www.namiadco.org
